Thru the Roof is the Special Needs Ministry of Houston’s First Baptist Church serving friends of all ages on Sunday mornings at The Loop Campus (9:15a & 10:45a) and Wednesdays, too. We engage your loved one with special programming for their age and ability level.

We believe it is all part of God’s plan to care, love, and welcome children and adults with special needs into our church fellowship and community. Therefore, we consider it a privilege to offer Life Bible Studies, buddies for children, and a well-trained staff of volunteers and caring individuals to make Sundays and Wednesdays the best days of the week for your loved one.

Adult Leaders

Teaches or supports Bible lessons, helps with behavior or sensory needs, and guides learners through activities and routines. Opportunities for worship inclusion are available with First Kids.

Buddies (ages 11-17)

Buddies (ages 11-17)

Shadow and engage your assigned learner. Help your learner be successful in their classroom, be their voice if needed, and encourage them to play with others and have fun!

Caregiver (Paid Worker)

Caregiver (Paid Worker)

Meets each learner’s primary needs, like restroom assistance, snacks, health, sensory, and spiritual support. Leads Bible stories and activities. Models proper assistance and directions for Buddies.

We provide weighted vests, sensory boxes, headphones, music, movement, a Bible story lesson, and lots of fun! Snacks are provided as well, and we offer GFCF snacks. For most of our spaces, no outside food is allowed. 

Prior registration is not required to attend Thru the Roof, but completing the Guest Registration form below would be helpful. If you have not completed the form, do not let that stop you from coming!

Our children's classrooms are equipped with trained volunteers and buddies who are eager to care and spend time with your loved one.

Should we need to contact you while you’re attending Life Bible Study, the worship service, or any other time we are caring for your loved one, we will call or text you.

To visit, simply stop by the church’s Main Foyer and ask any member of our Guest Experience Team for assistance. They’ll walk you and your family straight to our Thru the Roof suite, which is on the 3rd floor of the Loop Campus.
